Have you discussed snoring with your doctor?
A brief (but informative) article appears in the Los Angeles Times. It advises all patients to talk about their sleep (and specifically their snoring) with their doctors. We all know that couples talk about snoring (a lot!) But discussing your snoring problem with your doctor is really a good idea. Because good sleep is essential to health and well being, anything that disrupts sleep can have much broader health ramifications. Links between poor sleep and increased risks of high blood pressure, weight gain, diabetes, and depression, among others, have been demonstrated in multiple studies. Many sleep disorders, including insomnia, sleep apnea, and restless legs syndrome have been linked to decreased job performance – several studies have shown that people with sleep disorders are less likely to be promoted than people who sleep well. Snoring is often at the center of people’s sleep problems, and loud snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea. Because sleep apnea is so common, anyone who snores is encouraged to discuss their sleep and snoring history as part of their broader regular conversation with their doctor or you can contact The Snoring Center and schedule a consultation.
